Somewhere over the Rainbow.

By Izaak M

This week I've been indisposed thanks to Pneumonia. Anygay, someone still has to work at least to ensure you earthlings still get your usual weekly dosage. Gosh, this month better end soon. I never knew bloggers really have a lot in their hands but congrats to all you who make the situation room relevant. Imagine this bitch just hit the 2k mark in barely two months! The week also marked some great milestone for us LGBT persons especially when Barrack (Yeah that black Commander-In -Chief) publicly endorsed his support for us. I was thrilled and elated and that's why this song was tailor made just for us bi*ches! (I say this with admiration)

As you head out there for a weekend of sin, break-up, affair, marriage, church e.t.c. What I do wish you is that great feeling that comes with being beyond the rainbow. Now let me go have that deserved bed rest. My beau is on a work trip like CM. I guess mine will be somewhat over the rainbow. Gay men, God bless you!

Top 10 Reasons that you are still a SINGLE GAY MAN

By David Clark (Dr)

1. Your Standards are too high

This is the main killer of all potential relationships and even basic platonic friendships of many Gay men. You only need to briefly scour the many profiles on Gay dating sites to discover the laundry list of requirements Gay men place on one another. The most disturbing part about this is that MOST times the men are demanding prerequisites in others that they themselves do not even meet. Guys seem to all want this perfect fantasy "Superman" that they've created in their minds to "save" them that more likely than doesn't even exist. No one is perfect, not even yourself.

2. You are looking in all the Wrong Places

Many gay men will agree: Chat lines are for Hookups. Dating sites are for Hookups. Clubs are for Hookups. The large percentage of men you meet through the aforementioned methods will most likely just be looking for quick no-strings-attached sex. That's not to say that hookup sex never leads to relationships, but the chances for it are low

3. You are not as attractive as you think you are

Look into the mirror and honestly ask yourself if you are worth the effort. You say Yes Now look at your cell phone...is it ringing off the hook with potential dates? No? You have your REAL answer...All jokes aside; no one is attractive to ALL men. We all have different tastes and preferences and something as simple as a poorly chosen tattoo around a belly button can soften even the hardest penis of a masculine Gay/Bisexual man. Focus on depending on more than your appearance and you'll find that more quality men will emerge.

4. You are way too Young / Old

No one likes fruit and vegetables that aren't ripe yet. No one likes undercooked food. Many Gay men see anyone 25 and younger as disasters waiting to happen, with good reason. At that age they are like horny puppies humping the first legs they see. It eventually passes with time, but not before they're potentially all used up. Alternatively, "Desirable Gay" seems to have an expiration date. After 27 years old, you're like an old loaf of bread: your edges start to harden until you are 40 and you're ready to just be thrown into the trash. This is how many Gays view older men. I say all this to say, there is an ageist attitude amongst Gay/Bisexual men that goes both ways (pun intended). This reason has no solution. It all comes down to what your intentions are for the potential relationship and how thick your skin is for potential rejection.

5. You Don’t make enough Money

Gay men need to be wined and dined. Watching movies on your laptop at your apartment with your two or three roommates because you do not have money and/or a car is not what a Gay man considers a great date. Once again, I'm exaggerating but not by much...we're speaking about a culture of men who place looks and material possessions over personality and intelligence. This is partly understandable as many men want to at least date someone that can pay their bills and be able to afford a trip out of town occasionally. The only advice here is to "get your financial weight up." If not only to widen your dating options but to also better yourself and your situation in the process.

6. You are not looking

This one boggles my mind. So many men who WANT relationships have told me that they're not looking. The old adage, "you'll find a match once you stop looking for one" is holding you back. Nothing ever gets sold if you don't advertise that it is for sale. You have to be proactive in your search much like you would in looking for employment. No one ever says, "you'll find a job once you stop looking for one." On the flip side to this, some men you meet will say "I'm not looking for a relationship right now" but what they really mean is, "I'm not looking for a relationship WITH YOU." Accept this and move on to someone who actually has the same goal in mind as you.

7. You are Either Too Feminine or Too Masculine

This one is tricky. Gay men come in all sizes with many different tastes. There are masculine men who LOVE feminine guys. There are masculine guys who ONLY like other masculine men. There are even masculine men who like a mixture of the two, preferably when making noises in bed. As a naturally masculine man, I've been rejected countless times because I was too masculine. It can be intimidating to some men. You can't control the tastes of other individuals so there is no solution to be offered here except to just keep searching for a proper match.

8. You are not In To Commitment

I've met quite a few of these. These clingy relationship types often expect monogamy after your first date. They can be seen sending you "Good Morning" text messages DAILY the night after meeting you for the first time. They start planning for your future together before you even learn each others last names. Look, there's nothing wrong with getting excited once you've FINALLY found a man that meets your laundry list of standards and requirements, but there's no faster way to run him off than to let him know you've already started picking out the drapes for your new home together after only a few dates.

9. Your sexual role is Too Incompatible

There's nothing worse than being a Top and finally meeting the perfect guy only to find out that he's ALSO a Top. Same applies to Total Bottoms meeting other Total Bottoms. Then there are Fully Versatile guys who find it boring to date Non-Versatile men. Then there are the Oral Only men and the Fetish men and the list goes on...Some will say that sexual position doesn't matter. Speaking from experience, it does. A man in a relationship that is unsatisfied sexually often starts to stray after awhile. Again, you can't control the sexual tastes of other individuals so there is not much of a solution to be offered here except to just keep searching for a proper match.

10. You Just have Really Bad Timing

This is the main reason that has kept me single for as long as I can remember. I seem to have a knack for meeting great men at the wrong time. From meeting him while I'm dating another guy, meeting him when I'm single but he's in a relationship, meeting him when he's just getting out of a relationship and he still hasn't severed his feelings for his Ex, meeting him just as he's cutting off all dating to focus on work/school, to meeting the perfect guy RIGHT BEFORE he's about to move to the other side of the country...My timing sucks. What I've learned to do is to just lower my expectations. I've tried to meet as many guys as possible (discreetly) and develop quality friendships at the least so that my network can be widened, thus creating more opportunities to meet quality guys in the future.

Honey, the days when you were trained to speak softly and carry lip balm are over!

The first week of Coast went well, too much prep meetings and me getting acclimatized with this slow side of Kenya that I had to miss some awesome lunch date I had been invited to yesterday. Anygay I still got a fortnight. I had to come back late last evening to hold brief in office today since most of my colleagues are attending that guy’s burial( Remember the one I told you died in office?) Nevertheless, I will resume my assignment first thing tomorrow morning. First world pains I call it!  Izaak m (our guest columnist for the rest of this month while I’m gracing Coastal streets) has this thing going on about never cooking in a guy’s place especially in the first stages of dating that is if you are lucky enough to get there. I get his point because in all pretty boys’ honesty, what time will you enjoy being a boyfriend?
Pretty boys still subscribe to the school of thought that the way to a man’s heart is his stomach. This theory bit the dust when blow jobs were invented! And just for purposes of clarification, a pretty boy ain’t necessarily a bottom but the term loosely refers to any queer guy out there who takes a receptive role in this side of the planet. I’ve seen some capable Tops who bottoms have designed them into what they desire and even their drama beats that of some first class bitches that are dicked in this county! Let me leave all these Top-bottom BS for the next to be published Bottoming article (By the way, the modest motel room I’m putting up in is really conducive for writing)
Let’s get your usual music dose going:

A guy expressly asks you out and you come up with the idea that you should go Dutch. I know we like flaunting that we are independent and all but seriously, what time will you really enjoy being out on a date? A guy asks for your number and after him not calling back immediately you decide that you are the one who will make the first call, gosh! Since when did pretty boys become this aggressive? You are always the one planning your trysts, you get to choose all the meeting venues and still complain that he doesn’t know great places (No wonder you are being taken to those fast food joints where the menu is on a wall and someone else is being taken to sirimon Gate for a weekend by the same brute)…We really fried ourselves…
A guy may be as hawt and as popular as fuck but pretty, get over yourself! You have other business than being the one to always entertain a fully grown fellow man yet you aren’t getting paid for it. Then it gets to the point where pretty boys unanimously decide that no good guys exist. C’mon while you were busy forgetting the being hard to get maxim, guys got power over you and you still ask why they forgot to send you the damn memo?
This weekend think about the things that really matter (Including dick or man pussy), Izaak still opines that just because the guy fucks really good doesn’t mean you love him. In fact, last week when he handled this segment he really got me thinking…
You woke up to that crinkled used-up condom in the carpet in some nasty bit of Nairobi and/or Mtwapa you’ve never been before, you’ve realized that you are the one he spends only Friday night with (since he’s been stood up by that other random bitch) and yet he’s never available on Saturday and Sunday, You are the one who lies in that bed. Cold, naked, ashamed with a painful bugina…
Pretty boys fried themselves when the code was right before their eyes! Honey, the days when you were trained to carry lip balm and speak softly are spent!
Be the star!

There's a Price...

By Cole M
My suitcase is ready…almost ready. I just need to get those 2 suits from the laundry and regularize my transcripts of those two great articles that have taken a substantial amount of my wits and time…maybe then I’ll be ready. I have done my best to discharge all my man baggage. It’s going to be a whole month in a whole new environment. I don’t want to raise anyone’s hopes up. That’s why I had to take a little bit of time to neutralize things a bit. I’ve seriously been looking forward for this assignment since January when I switched jobs. Question is why is it that all these ghosts from the past (read as men encounters) start haunting when you are just on the verge of finally making something out of your silly life? That ‘Cole you are finally getting what you wanted’ conversation with my foster brother this weekend was really rejuvenating.

My Dutch friend Jo-C gave me this book a while back and I’ve gathered that I’ve actually been getting old cans from the ditch. That’s why I specially thank him for that Mt. Kenya expedition. It was an eye opener of the finer things in life. I believe last week after the said voyage saw a lot of ‘misfortunes’ happen to all the three of us but I pause here and ponder: I guess when you find yourself just too happy and having the time of your life, it’s natures way of cushioning you against some kind of lurking setback. I am not so proud of the choices I’ve made in the past but I think I’m a sum total of those same choices. Always say I’ve done some pretty disturbing things for my time. It’s called the ultimate price earthlings! It ranges from that bar brawl, that random hook up with the guy who was kind enough to give you syphilis or some funny disease, that revenge mission on the Ex that got you hurt even though you won, that moment in a pretty boy’s life where you have three guys and can’t make up your mind, that morning when the man pussy is crying for desperate attention and there is just no one to blame. The list is endless babies! Remember that question I asked in some past article about how many guys you’ve met, how many you’ve slept with and how many you’ve really slept with? Well, I happened to recently hook up with some toy boy who coincidentally is on a ‘planning a shag’ terms with the Ex (My). We only did ‘the slept with’ part and Phew, there was no kissing involved just mutual pleasuring of selves. I call wanking pleasuring myself. Apparently I got a resounding lesson that some guys don’t kiss unless they are really in a committed relationship! I was helpful enough to share all the good information he’ll probably need including the fact that he falls in my second category of black lists. What?  C’mon, the queer scene in this country is a web of people who have all almost (sic) slept with each other. A pretty boy has needs!

A mistake I did in my last relationship (also known as emotionally co-dependent shitstorm) was giving excuses. Excuses when he never picked those calls, forgot to wish me a goodnight, stood me up on those situations when you were meeting friends just to socialize after some careful planning. Excuses, excuses, excuses! As I author this, I’m just from one of those random evening coffee trysts: the Trophy boy is discharged of his duties formally. It’s the ultimate price I pay after a moment of what I consider fun and I’d already started my excuses again (Izaak M must be rolling his eyes after bashing me last week). I just don’t want any predicament when I come back from this trip. Gosh, breakup conversations are still very hard especially to yours truly who believes in the old school way of doing it! The pretty boys’ code is still clear that face to face breakup shall always take precedence!

But then why does everyone want a fucking medal and a gold star for doing what they MUST do? In my view, it earns you ZILCH. It’s your DUTY. So let me spare you the pat on my own back. Reminds me the other day when I was telling Steph’ that my literature mentor was vigorous and once told me that I don’t need anyone’s permission to wipe my own ass after shit! My point is that you always know what you are getting yourself into and the subsequent repercussions. No one congratulates you for having decency and common sense. It’s the price!

As a budding writer, my worry is always about the next article, the blog statistics and/or ratings. Most guys you meet over a simple tryst worry about whether they’ll be mentioned in the next piece. Um--I hate to break it to them (and their therapists): You really don’t need me to validate your existence. Trust me.
The ultimate price I’m choosing here is a fresh start. I’m going to bend things over (don’t get any ideas) a little. 2012 is indeed a good year! Kindly, watch this space!

All we are is dust In the wind...

Two things: I have an out of town getaway trip first thing tomorrow morning and I hardly have a fortnight left in this city coutersy of some assignment I took up early this year. I have been having quite a rough week ranging from crazy work schedules, articles running late, solving some friends' relationship issues and of course finding myself in peculiar circumstances of dealing with an Ex (I don't want to give him any airtime here definitely that's the objective). Anyway how was your week? Did I ever mention that I value you?Now you know.
A couple of months ago when I was young(still am), restless and naive I found myself lying alone.Cold, ashamed and naked on the floor. It really got me thinking. I have really done some pretty disturbing things for my time.

I look back and a few questions dangle. Why were you Mr. M's casual sex partner on Friday and got to wake up on Saturday morning in his bed feeling ashamed and used and while still breathing the same air why did you get to spend  the whole weekend with Mr. N and head back home on Monday evening in his suit since it was a working day? What about those few trysts at Gypsies, Tacos, Sylk that made you head home at not so biblically approved hours of the morning with a human being you barely knew? What about waking up in some nasty bit of Nairobi you have never been before and all you can see is some crinkled condoms in the carpet? Leave alone all that...Have you had one of those sexual trysts during lunchtime in the mens' room at the office with a guy you've been chatting with on Romeo then the whole afternoon you end up wondering what the hell was that all about! I think it's all about priorities and values. All in the package of living your life. The problem with time is this: It goes on! We've lost many amongst us just because of taking no precautionary measures in terms of our safety, we've deflowered many a man-pussy and appreciated many  Eight inch rods not realizing the reality of a senseless disease. Some of us suffer in silence since I won't close my eyes to the fact that even sensitive issues like rape and violence exists among our people. Ever wondered where it all ends...just like dust in the wind there is some emptiness that crowns it all and all the activities that were swag transform into nothing.....dust in the wind.

Before I let you go and you allow me take a three-day hiatus from this space, take a step back, look at your fine self: You are a human,beautiful,so beautiful, and can be anything,actually everything! Forget those homophobes and the clerics who seem to make it a priority every other day to make us look small yet you and I know that some are sick and getting serviced at our terms. Don't hate everyone just because someone broke ur heart. Your parents split up, your best friend betrayed you, dad hit you, that bitch called you fat,ugly, stupid, beyond his league . . . Don't concern yourself with things you can't control. Cry when you need to,then let it go when it's time. Don't hung onto painful memories just because you are afraid to forget. Live for something. Live for yourself. Fall in love. Question things. Tell people how you really feel.Create, Imagine, Inspire, Meet new people. Make someone's day. Have sex (lots of it). . . . Live your life to it's full potential. Just live. Let go of all of the horrible in your life and f***ing Live because in the end
all we are is dust in the wind!

The Winter of Our Discontent

By W. Shakespeare

Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York;
And all the clouds that lour'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.

Now are our brows bound with victorious wreaths;
Our bruised arms hung up for monuments;
Our stern alarums changed to merry meetings,
Our dreadful marches to delightful measures.
Grim-visaged war hath smooth'd his wrinkled front;
And now, instead of mounting barded steeds
To fright the souls of fearful adversaries,
He capers nimbly in a lady's chamber
To the lascivious pleasing of a lute.

But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks,
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamp'd, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph;
I, that am curtail'd of this fair proportion,
Cheated of feature by dissembling nature,
Deformed, unfinish'd, sent before my time
Into this breathing world, scarce half made up,
And that so lamely and unfashionable
That dogs bark at me as I halt by them;
Why, I, in this weak piping time of peace,
Have no delight to pass away the time,
Unless to spy my shadow in the sun
And descant on mine own deformity:
And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover,
To entertain these fair well-spoken days,
I am determined to prove a villain
And hate the idle pleasures of these days.

Plots have I laid, inductions dangerous,
By drunken prophecies, libels and dreams,
To set my brother Clarence and the king
In deadly hate the one against the other:
And if King Edward be as true and just
As I am subtle, false and treacherous,
This day should Clarence closely be mew'd up,
About a prophecy, which says that 'G'
Of Edward's heirs the murderer shall be.
Dive, thoughts, down to my soul: here
Clarence comes.
